仮定法
ifの代わりに用いられる語句

Suppose I were left alone on a desert island,what would I do?
もし、私が無人島に取り残されたらどうしよう。

ifの節の代わり   不定詞、分詞、その他の句には　if 節の意味が含まれる。

To hear him speak, you would take him for a girl.
（ if you heard him speak,)

彼が話すのを聞いたなら、あなたは　彼を　少女だと思うだろう。
Born in better times,he would have become rich.
(if he had been born in better times
もし、彼がもっとよい時代に生まれていたなら、彼は金持ちになってただろう。
A Japanese would not react like that.
日本人なら　そのような反応はしないだろうに。
Without water, nothing could live on this earth.
水がなければ、何物もこの地球上には生きられないだろう。
With your help,I would have succeeded.
もし、あなたが援助してくれていたら、私は成功していただろうに。
He studied very hard, otherwise he might have failed the test.
彼は大変熱心に勉強した。もしそうしなかったならば、彼は試験に落ちていたかもしれない

仮定法の慣用表現

If only he would stop being suspicious.(=I wish he would stop ..)
彼が疑い深くなるのを止めてくれたらなぁ
One more effort, and he would have succeeded.( = if he had mode one more effort,...)
もう一歩努力すれば　彼は成功しただろうに。
It is time you went to bed. ( It is time for you to go bed.)
あなたは　もう寝る時間ですよ。
But for your help, I would have failed.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　( = If it had not been for your help, ..)
あなたの助けがなければ　私は　失敗していただろう。
If it were not for your help, I could not finish it.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　（= Without your help)
もし、あなたの助けがなければ、私は　それを終結することができないだろう。
